Govt plans major amendments to Toshakhana gifts' laws
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has planned to amend laws related to Toshakhana gifts received by the government officials from foreign countries.
Sources said a 12-member committee has prepared a report, recommending amendments in the laws, and it is likely to be presented in a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday for approval.
Among other amendments, the committee has proposed prohibition of giving Toshakhana gifts to the government officials.
The state depository gifts have been making the headlines since various audios leaked online allegedly featuring PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi who can purportedly be heard talking about selling of the gifts received by the former prime minister from Arab countries.
Earlier this year, the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Imran Khan as a member of the parliament in the Toshakhan case for incorrect declaration of assets.
Earlier this month, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and Lahore High Court (LHC) directed the federal government to provide details of Toshakhana gifts given to the successive presidents and prime ministers since 1947.
